The State of Illinois and its various departments provide valuable assistance to residents of the 28th District on a daily basis. If you have a state government question or concern, please contact one my offices for help.

Education
- College Planning
- The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) can provide information on MAP Grants and assistance with completing the FAFSA.
- Individualized Education Programs
- The Illinois State Board of Education offers Individualized Education Programs for those students with Special Needs.
- Illinois Online Colleges and Universities

- Test Score & Data Privacy
- Information on how student data is used can be found here.
Employment
- The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)
- For job seekers and unemployed individuals, the IDES website is a valuable resource with a hiring board and details on upcoming job fairs.
- IDES’ website also has information for employers looking for information on available hiring tax credits and fighting unemployment insurance fraud.
- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)
- Seasonal and full-time employment listings, plus application materials and instructions, are available on the IDOT website.
- IDOT also offers mentorship programs, summer internships and other Student Opportunities for elementary, middle school, high school and college students.
Healthcare
- Medical Benefit Issues
- Both the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and Department of Human Services work with Illinoisans to ensure that they receive the proper medical benefits.
- Social Security – Disability Determination
- The Department of Human Services also works with the Social Security Administration to determine an individual’s eligibility for Disability benefits.
Housing
- The Illinois Housing Development Authority offers various programs to help Illinoisans secure housing, including the Welcome Home Illinois! Program.
Mortgage
- Attorney General links
- The Attorney General’s office may be able to help homeowners and provide information about how to avoid foreclosure.
- Organizations
- The Spanish Coalition for Housing provides mortgage services for individuals in need.
Property Taxes
- Exemptions
- Please visit the Cook County or DuPage County Assessors’ websites to check if you are eligible for one or more of the available exemptions.
- Filling an Appeal
- If you feel that your property has been over-assessed, please contact our office to set up an appointment or visit the Assessors’ websites for necessary Appeal forms.
Senior Services
- The Illinois Department on Aging aids seniors in many areas, including the Benefits Access Program (formerly the Circuit Breaker Program) and transportation.
Veterans/Military Affairs
- The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Illinois Department of Military Affairs work to provide our veterans and current military personnel and their families with the necessary services.
